Variety IS the Spice!
21 May 2006

The Cat & The Moon Site Launch
We are delighted to announce that www.thecatandthemoon.com, modelled on the second generation of our ASP.NET based online store solution for small business. has gone live.

With many of their customers coming from North America, The Cat & The Moon have always placed great value on the opportunities provided by the Internet to expand their business reach and have committed themselves fully to best practice in developing and managing their Internet presence. This commitment continues with the latest incarnation of their web site.

The site contains 3 major areas, the online store with associated product, customer and order management facilities, a dedicated gallery module and a section providing detailed information on the company and its extensive range of activities.

With a wide and varied product range and complex pricing structure, it was decided to opt for a custom-built online store in order to offer the richest and most dynamic shopping experience possible to customers. Using the latest in web development techniques including AJAX and web services, we developed a shopping experience built specifically around the customer highlighting the ranges The Cat & the Moon offer with the twin objectives of making the shopping experience as user friendly as possible (with currency exchange information and product customisation facilities built in) while providing complete manageability of the store inventory to The Cat & The Moon. The store features supporting modules which allow for the complete maintenance of customer accounts and orders with varying degrees of access for both the customers themselves and site administrators based on a secure role based mechanism.

The gallery section presents detailed and timely information about the works on show in the fine art gallery at the company's Sligo premises and offers supporting information on the featured artists and their exhibitions.

In keeping with the company's commitment to emerging new technologies, several RSS feeds are now available from the site. The Cat & The Moon recognise the marketing potential of this exciting technology for automatically disseminating timely information about their products and activities to both customers and other web sites. The company is currently looking to establish quality online relationships with other sites offering complementary goods and services and feel RSS will play a vital role in forming and maintaining these relationships. For more information you may contact The Cat & The Moon here.

First Firefox Extension Released
Here at Hyper-Typer Web development we like to think we take a pragmatic view of software development and see both the proprietary and open source streams as equally important in our daily work producing efficient solutions for clients.

Undoubtedly the flagship of what an open source approach has to offer right now is the Mozilla Foundation's excellent web browser Firefox. One of the features of Firefox we love is its extensibility with developers all around the world contributing extensions (useful add-ons to enhance the functionality of the browser) and so we are pleased to make our first small contribution to the effort with the release of the Firefox extension version of our popular O2 Web Texter which is now available to download free on our downloads page.

But Wait, There's More...
Staying on an open source theme we are currently developing 2 new PHP/MySQL web sites.

The first is for Milligan Place, a new accommodation complex in Sligo City which will provide quality student accommodation to the growing Sligo IT population during the academic year and offer self-catering accommodation to tourists in the summer months.

The second is for Donegal based company Green Pastures Donegal Ltd. who produce a range of dairy products for the consumer, food service and food manufacturing sectors.
